Ch. 7 – The Path of Freedom

1. Exile – Sending someone to live in another country as a punishment.

2. Nationalism – A strong feeling of pride and loyalty towards one’s own country.

3. Boycott – A form of protest in which people refuse to buy something or take part in something.

4. Strikes – Acts where people collectively refuse to work because their demands have not been met.

5. Annex – To take control of a region or territory by force.

1. What were the reasons behind Indians’ discontent with the British?
ANS-  Indians were unhappy with the British because:

The British took away their freedom and treated Indians unfairly.

Heavy taxes were collected from farmers.

Indian industries and crafts were destroyed.

Indians were not given good jobs in government.

British laws were strict and unjust.

2. Discuss the Dandi March.
ANS-  The Dandi March was started by Mahatma Gandhi in 1930.
He walked from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi, a village in Gujrat, to protest against the British salt law.
Gandhi made salt from sea water to show that Indians could make their own salt.
