Q1. What is groundwater?
When rainwater falls on the earth, much of it is absorbed by the ground. This is known as groundwater.

Q2. What are canals?
Canals are small channels dug to take water from rivers to fields.


Long Answers

Q3. Describe the sources of water.
There are different sources of water:

  1. Rain – It is the main source of water.
  2. Rivers – Water from rain flows into rivers and streams.
  3. Lakes and ponds – These are small or large water bodies that store rainwater.
  4. Wells and tube wells – These bring groundwater to the surface.
  5. Dams – Large walls built to store river water.
  6. Groundwater – Water stored under the ground, which we get by using hand pumps.

Q4. What are wells and tube wells? Discuss.

Wells – A well is a deep hole dug in the ground to reach water. People use ropes and buckets to draw water from it.

Tube wells – A tube well is a narrow and deep pipe that is dug into the ground using a machine. It has an electric pump that pulls water easily.
